The movie inspired by the Indian leader is about to arrive in theaters. who defended their culture against the Spanish invasion of 1537. Tundama is a Colombian animated film. which was produced in 2019 and a year later was seen only in a few drive-in theaters. An animated film that has generated a lot of expectation due to the invitations it has received for several national and international festivals.
It is a project produced by Daga Media studio and realized by brothers Diego and Edison Yaya.. It was not easy. It took them almost a decade to complete the project.
With a 2D and 3D animation mixing, a storyboard of more than 2500 drawings and Motion Capture technology gave life to this great work of the seventh art.
The film lively Tundama will show us the Muisca language, declared extinct since the 18th century, and will tell us a story related to Colombian ancestors.
Thus we will see a cacique who confronts the Spanish crown once they arrive to his lands. While two infants are looking for their kidnapped sister and are caught in the middle of the conflict.

Who was Tundama?


He was a Muisca chieftain who lived in Duitama, Boyacá., during the time when the Spaniards came to colonize the American lands. Being one of the few who fought against them.
Tundama managed to gather an army of more than 10,000 Indians. He initially confronted Captain Baltasar Maldonado at Pantanos de Vargas in 1539. He lost the battle, but left the Spanish cavalry greatly compromised.
Some time later he confronted the captain again, but was unable to prevent the capture of Duitama. Later, Tundama was captured and hammered to death by Maldonado himself.
Diego and Edison Yaya


In an interview conducted by the Colombian daily newspaper La Republica, brothers Diego and Edison Yaya gave some details. One of them was that he has always liked native stories..
On one occasion Diego was doing research for a job he had to do and Tundama caught his attention.
They also commented that it is a fictional story with a high cultural content, but that it is not a documentary. You will see the clash of two worlds and a tribute to family, nature, history and freedom.
Although it has a lot of fiction, they comment that they were respectful of the historical characters. All with the aim of achieving a balance between entertainment and history.
