Jetpaks: The Technology That Allows Us to Fly Like Superheroes
SHARE

Have you ever dreamed of flying through the air like Iron Man or Superman? Can you imagine soaring through the sky with a jetpack that takes you wherever you want? Well, it's not a science fiction fantasy., but an increasingly closer reality. jetpaks or jetpacks They are devices that allow a person to rise and move through the air using jets of air, water or fuel.

  • What are jetpacks and how do they work?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of jetpacks?
  • What examples of jetpacks are there on the market?
  • What future awaits jetpacks?

Although they may seem like one recent invention, the truth is that lThey have been in development for decades and have been used by the military, astronauts and extreme athletes. However, their popularization still faces several challenges, such as cost, safety, and regulation. In this post, we'll tell you everything you need to know about jetpack technology and how they could change the way we travel and have fun.

What are jetpacks and how do they work?

The Jetpacks are devices that are placed on the back and generate enough thrust to lift a person off the ground and make them fly.Thrust is produced by the expulsion of a fluid (air, water or fuel) at high speed through nozzles. The physical principle that explains this phenomenon is Newton's third law., which states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Thus, by expelling the fluid downward, an upward force is generated that counteracts the person's weight and makes them rise.

There are different types of jetpacks depending on the fluid they use and the propulsion mode. The most common are:

  • Compressed air jetpaks: They use high-pressure air cylinders released through user-controlled valves. They are the simplest and safest, but also the ones with the least range and power. They typically reach a height of a few meters and a flight time of a few seconds.
  • Water jetpaks: They use a hose connected to a pump that propels a jet of water through nozzles. They are the most popular for recreational purposes, as they are used over water surfaces such as lakes or pools. They can reach heights of about 15 meters and can fly for about 30 minutes, but this depends on the length of the hose and the power of the pump.
  • Fuel jetpaks: They use an engine that burns fuel (kerosene or hydrogen peroxide) and generates hot gases that are expelled through nozzles. They are the most powerful and fastest, but also the most dangerous and expensive. They can reach altitudes of about 100 meters and fly for about 45 minutes, but they require training, permits, and safety measures.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of jetpacks?

Jetpaks are devices that offer several advantages, such as:

  • The feeling of freedom and adrenaline that comes from flying through the air without the need for wings or a parachute.
  • The ability to access remote or difficult-to-reach locations by other means of transportation.
  • The fun and entertainment that comes from using them as a recreational or sporting activity.
  • The innovation and technological development involving their design and manufacture.

However, jetpacks also have some disadvantages, such as:

  • He high cost which involves purchasing or renting them, as well as the maintenance and fuel they require.
  • He risk of accidents or injuries that may be caused by technical failures, human error or adverse weather conditions.
  • The lack of legal regulation that exists regarding its use in airspace, which makes it difficult for a few to operate. This also creates conflict with other aircraft or the competent authorities.
  • He environmental impact which may be caused by noise, pollution or damage to flora and fauna.

What examples of jetpacks are there on the market?

Although jetpacks are not yet a mass-market product, several companies and organizations have developed and marketed them. Some examples include:

  • Jetpack Aviation: American company that created the JB-10, a fuel-powered jetpack that can fly at 160 km/h and 3,000 meters above sea level. It costs around $300,000, and a pilot's license is required to use it.
  • Martin Aircraft: is a New Zealand company that has created the P12, a fuel-powered jetpack that can fly at 74 km/h and 1,000 meters above sea level. Its price is around $150,000, and while it was expected to hit the market in 2022, no further news has been received as of 2023.
  • Zapata: It's a French company that created the Flyboard Air, a compressed-air jetpack that can fly at 150 km/h and 150 meters high. Its price is unknown, and special authorization is required to use it.
  • Jetlev: is a German company that has created the Jetlev-Flyer, a water jetpack that can fly at 35 km/h and 15 meters high. It costs around $100,000 and can be used on any water surface.

What future awaits jetpacks?

Jetpacks are a technology that is still evolving and has significant potential for improvement and expansion. Some of the trends and challenges that are anticipated for the future include:

  • Reducing the cost and weight of jetpacks, making them more accessible and comfortable for the general public.
  • Improving the range and speed of jetpacks, to increase their performance and versatility.
  • The incorporation of more advanced safety and navigation systems to prevent accidents and facilitate flight control.
  • The creation of clear rules and regulations to ensure the responsible and safe use of jetpacks in airspace.
  • Exploring new applications and uses for jetpacks, both for recreational and professional purposes.

Jetpacks are a technology that allows us to fly like superheroes and opens up a world of possibilities. However, they also involve a series of risks and responsibilities that we must take into account. Would you dare to try them? What do you think of jetpacks? Leave us your opinion in the comments.
