Being a journalist is an often misunderstood challenge. Being a spokesperson for information and a bridge for dialogue often doesn't feel like change the world, but only to be a witness. That is why, especially in these times when many say that this discipline is dead, it is even more impressive that its exponents stand out for good reasons.
Larry King was one of these great exponents. We may agree or disagree with his political ideas (since journalistic neutrality is a rather loose myth), but his work has managed to transcend physical and linguistic barriers to establish himself as a recognizable figure in the collective unconscious.
The feats of his career are a topic that most media outlets have probably already covered by now. But here at Geekine we believe in remembering for the impact (something often more subjective) than for formal recognition.

The brilliance of his silence as a journalist
Larry King was a television journalist primarily known for the significance of his work as an interviewer.. This is particularly noteworthy considering that the interviewee is usually the one who stands out in these situations. But his popular recognition has been such that he even made an appearance as a bee in the movie Bee Movie.
His terse, short, and forceful questions focused attention on his interlocutor. His subtle control of the situation ensured that the interview progressed and led the information to the points that people, the citizens, the public wanted to know.
The media personalities who were once invited to his show are too numerous to be covered in this small space on the internet. For now, it will suffice to say that among these eccentric and diverse characters are Vladimir Putin, Hugo Chávez, Oprah, and Carlos Slim.

But as always, we don't believe everything has been said. So we hope you'll tell us, dear reader, What aspects of Larry King's life and work do you find most noteworthy? What things will you remember about him?
