The most anticipated revelation of the year is here: Huawei introduced HarmonyOS, its new alternative operating system to Android. The announcement was made during the first day of the 2019 Developers Conference in Dongguan, China.
This new Huawei operating system offers a new take on Google's Android, which has long held the lead. It also has an ace up its sleeve in case it is hit again by the China-US trade sanctions.
The presentation of HarmonyOS
Richard Yu, from Huawei's consumer division, explained the importance of having its own operating system to face the future challenges of the internet and technological advances.
HarmonyOS was designed with open source code and for use on both smartphones and other company products such as tablets, computers, smartwatches, and even household appliances. Huawei claims that its new operating system works on devices with reduced performance because it is so lightweight.

For now, Huawei will continue to use Android as the operating system on its phones. However, they will launch a television from Honor, their second brand, that will already run HarmonyOS.
For now, we'll have to wait to see this new operating system in action. But we're sure it will bring a new wave of changes to the technology used in our cell phones. Tell us in the comments: Would you try the new HarmonyOS or would you prefer to stick with Android?
