There are many horror productions, but few like this one. Jorge Romero's Night of the Living Dead film series, a series of films that focus on the zombie apocalypse.

Some horror films with a touch of gore in which you can see a lot of graphic violence and excessive artificial blood.

The first movie Night of the Living Dead It premiered in 1968, and follows a group of people trying to survive inside a farmhouse after the dead come back to life, chasing the living humans. The film was initially criticized for its graphic violence, But over time, its influence has been notable in the horror genre, especially in zombie films, attracting many fans to this day.

Its premiere was a huge success at the box office, as it had aa budget of $ 114,000 and more than $ 40,000,000 was raised, so they decided to make a second film. But it didn't stop there; the undead saga is extensive, with six films to delight horror fans. Below, we show you the other five that make up the saga:

1. Dawn of the Dead (1978): The plot begins with riots caused by the zombie apocalypse that has completely taken over the country. A group of four people manage to escape by helicopter, but without enough fuel, so they must land in a shopping mall. There, they manage to barricade themselves and defend themselves as best they can from the stampede of zombies that want to eat them.

2. Day of the Dead (1985): It's the third and last of the three films considered "classics." In this installment, the undead have conquered the world, reaching a ratio of 400,000 zombies for every human. Faced with this, a group of scientists, aided by the military, search for a cure for this pandemic. Meanwhile, a scientist investigates a theory that zombies can be re-educated, making them docile, but everything spirals out of control.

3. Land of the Dead (2005): In it, we see a group of survivors who have a fortified city known as The Golden Triangle, ruled by a feudal government in which the wealthy live in skyscrapers and the rest must figure out how to survive. Meanwhile, the zombies evolve and begin to show signs of intelligence, forming an army with which they seek to invade the city.

4. Diary of the Dead (2007): A film that lacks continuity from the previous one, and is rather a rebirth of the legendary saga. This installment is approached with a new vision and a novel technical approach. We see a group of college students who want to film a horror movie, and as they settle in, they watch news about the recent riots and mass murders. Soon, they will have to fight for survival during a zombie apocalypse. It's worth noting that the film's ending leaves us with the question: Should the human race be saved?

5. Survival of the Dead or The Resistance of the Dead (2009): the The latest in the series, which was not well received for lacking the social or political criticism we were accustomed to in the previous installments. In this installment, two rival families fight for survival on an island, while the zombies continue to evolve. One wants to exterminate the zombies, while the other protects the zombies that were once part of their family.

Although Jorge Romero passed away in 2017, he left a seventh installment in the pipeline to complete the saga of the night of the living dead, which would be called "Twilight of the dead." to close the entire saga with a flourish. But this situation changed recently, as a production company became interested in the script.

The new story will take place on a tropical island, showcasing the dark nature of humankind from the perspective of survivors surrounded by the undead.

Other related productions of the Night of the Living Dead saga

It is important to mention that several were also filmed movies that are not part of this universeOnce a film is successful, sequels or versions by other directors follow. In this case, a second version was filmed, a film of the same name in 2008 with director Steve Miner.

There's also another one called Dawn of the Dead, produced in 2004 by Zack Snyder and James Gunn. It's similar to the 1978 film, but with some variations, such as the speed at which the zombies walk. In this one, they're much faster and more aggressive.

Finally, there's a 2018 production directed by Héctor Hernández Vicens called Day of the Death: Bloodline. The film is based on Jorge Romero's 1985 film.

If you've seen all these movies from the Night of the Living Dead saga, you'll surely You'll remember the classic zombie phrase "brain, brain" which is so celebrated in popular culture of the undead. If you haven't seen it and you like the horror genre, what are you waiting for?
