Nowadays it is almost impossible find a person who does not have a Gmail account. Google has made sure that its product is necessary for all its other services. This has grown and changed so much over 15 years that nothing is like when it was just a project.

In April 2019Gmail celebrates 15 years and has already been crowned king of email services. It also boasts being the safest with respect to hackers.

Although everyone has an email in Gmail, there is little we know about him, today we tell you 6 things you should know about its history.

Gmail and its history

  1. It all started as a project by the developer of Google Paul Buchheit, who started the programming of this in August 2001.
  2. The first code name of the project was “Caribou code", in reference to a Dilbert comic strip. Since a 1997 issue shows how Dilbert's boss assigns him someone else's project, the Caribou project.
  3. Google launched Gmail on the market April 1, 2004 as an email service free with a 1 gigabyte free storage.
  4. The release date date was chosen deliberately to create confusion, since in the United States it is celebrated "April fool's day" April 1st.
  5. Was in June 2005 that is changed the Gmail URL and went from http://gmail.Google.com/gmail/ to http://mail.Google.com/mail/.
  6. Initially, it was only possible to obtain an email by invitation. This has changed. February 7, 2007, when the logs were partially released. And February 13th from that same year to the end The records were completely opened worldwide.Currently, anyone can register without an invitation.

Today it offers multiple tools and applications ranging from keeping your emails organized to confidential use. In addition to that Google day by day improves your security to avoid the hackers and offer better service. And that's precisely why it's become a favorite. Did you already know about its history?
