The philanthropist Bill Gates continues to innovate, in his recent appearance at the beginning of November 2018, in the city of Beijing presented, in an exhibition, the incredible ecological toiletsA project that will help with the health problems of the poorest nations.
For many of us, toilets are essential parts of a bathroom, whether in our homes, restaurants, or any public place we visit.
But in the meantime, According to studies, more than half of the world's population, about 4.5 billion people, live without adequate sanitation services. Allowing around 50% of human waste to end up in the environment. Because they do not have the precious liquid of water, nor plumbing systems, toilets become luxury items.
This way, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been working since 2011 on reinventing the toilet. With an investment of around $200 million, they now seek to accelerate its implementation and commercialization with this cutting-edge technology.
How do eco-friendly toilets work?
When using and closing the lid, the inner container rotates 270 degrees, placing solid waste to the bottom. In this way, they are deposited in a chamber, where are burned, until they turn into ashes.
As to liquid waste, these pass through membranes to purify them. Then, the resulting liquid is sent to a reservoir, although it is not completely clean to drink, can be used to water plants. And even more so if you have a garden.
The benefits of this innovation
For the moment, This ecological toilet project is in the testing phase, but later on it will allow for savings on expensive piping systems.
Equally important, It will not use water and will transform human excrement into fertilizers.. Likewise, it is would reduce infections due to poor hygiene, and consumption of contaminated water, which claims some 500,000 lives each year worldwide, with the development of diseases such as diarrhea and cholera.
It should be noted that some of these toilets are being used in the city of Durban, in South Africa. Also They are testing models that work with solar energy.
Now, for a few years now, Human resource consumption is growing rapidlyWith these initiatives, water and electricity costs are reduced, while fertilizers are obtained at the same time. A step forward is taken, in this trend of caring for our only planet.
Although it may seem a little crazy, Changes in our daily lives can save the planetTell us, what do you think of these initiatives for a better world? What other similar ideas have caught your attention?
