Thirteen years have passed since the premiere of Avatar, the endearing science fiction story directed by James Cameron about an alien planet called Pandora that the human race seeks to conquerEverything changes when Jake Sully, a wheelchair-bound soldier who is part of the Avatar program, enters the Omaticaya tribe and fights to save them. The long-awaited sequel was recently released, in December 2022, and that's why below we present the worst and the best of Avatar: The Way of Water. But beware. CONTAINS SPOILERS!
The best:
- The sequel brings back characters from the previous film that we as viewers can already recognize. Jake Sully as the protagonist, Naytiri as his wife, the scientists who helped him save Pandora, and the soldiers who pursued them, but now in avatar form. The nod to Dr. Grace's preserved body when Kiri visits her creates a considerable emotional impact.
- The scene takes place on a paradise island far from the forests where the battle against humans took place in the past. Interaction with wildlife is limited to the sky and sea, so aquatic life takes center stage for the new tribe, thus providing a broader view of the planet's geography.
- The introduction of younger characters brings new audiences to the series. and gives more room for comedic dialogue. Sully's children create a diverse mix of impulsive teenagers, natural prodigies, and innocent toddlers. Meanwhile, Spider, the only human child, struggles to be accepted as a Na'vi against all odds.

Worst:
- Kiri's powers to control the flora and fauna of the sea are never explained, nor where they came from.It is only hinted that the girl felt different from everyone else and couldn't explain why, but that in her isolation she found solace in being part of the nature that surrounded her, which seems to be a unique gift for her.
- The subplot of the military in their avatar body chasing Sully with the help of Spider is slow and doesn't stand out in any way. There's a general review of Jake's past achievements and his apprenticeship with the Na'vi, but now adapted to Colonel Miles. The development of the same colonel's father-son relationship with Spider doesn't show any major progress or significance overall.

- The introduction scenes for marine fauna are long and tedious.Almost half the film shows whales swimming on screen or animals connecting with the characters. The length of endless silence and high-angle shots give the impression that we're watching a nature documentary that never ends.
In conclusion…

While Avatar 2 revisits important moments and characters from the first installment, it doesn't live up to the expectations of the 2009 film. The director himself admitted that his plan to turn the new film a profitable success It was in danger many times, but managed to continue extending the story for an Avatar 3, leaving viewers with the satisfaction of finishing the loose ends that have not yet been closed.
