In 2014, Christopher Nolan, the same director of the emblematic Trilogy of Batman, surprised the world with Interstellar. A film about space and human nature. To some people's surprise, this is a film that has aged quite well. And it will probably continue to do so.

To be honest, here at Geekine we're amazed every time we watch it and are always discovering new interesting facts about this film. That's why today we want to pay tribute to this beautiful piece of cinematography. Here, with you, 12 amazing things about Interstellar.

1) A message about trust

He world that Interstellar presents to us is in frank decline. It is unknown whether humanity has destroyed the Earth or whether it is the Earth itself that rejects us. Despite this, out in space, there is hope. Beings that the characters do not know and who they hope will be benevolent invite them to go out on an adventure and into the unknown.. And with that, save the entire human race. As they say, it's just a leap of faith.

2) The causal loop paradox

This is a bit difficult to explain, but I'll try. Joseph Cooper ventures into space because he received gravitational signals near his daughter's bookcase., right? Well, at the end of the film, it turns out he's the one sending those signals.

So, How did those signals get there? They arrived because he himself sent them. That's why he made the trip. And that's why he was able to send them. But How would Joseph Cooper of the future have known that it was necessary to send those signals without having sent them himself?

It's not a plot convenience or anything like that. It is, in fact, an example of the Causal Loop ParadoxThis paradox consists of a predestination or Causal Loop that is self-produced and self-consistent.

Here's Peter Capaldi, playing Doctor Who, explaining this interesting concept.

3) Religious parallels

Do you think it's a coincidence that Joseph Cooper shares the initials of Jesus Christ? And that the doctor who tries to kill him is named "Man"?

The story of Interstellar It's not just time-space travel and amazing special effects. It is also a story that It hides a deep reflection about the relationship that people have with our deities..

Man attempts to kill God, and the consequences of this will affect not only the plot of the film, but also the people who watch it.

4) Behind it all, there is some optimism

As I was saying, The world in Intserstellar is on the brink of destructionBut the reasons for this are unknown. Perhaps another film would be about the characters trying to understand why this is happening, or perhaps finding someone to blame.

But that's not the case with Interstellar, nor is it what Nolan wanted to do. The axis of this film is in the solutions, At no point do we believe that if there are guilty parties, they shouldn't be held accountable. But it's also true that this won't solve the underlying problem.

5) The black hole

He year 2019 It was a historic one for astrophysics. Scientist Katie Bauman managed to capture, for the first time in human history, a black hole in photographyAnd you might be wondering: what does this have to do with Interstellar?

Well It turns out that the depiction of black holes in this film is, not so surprisingly, similar to reality. And that's despite the fact that we're talking about a representation five years prior to scientific revelation. It's not just The Simpsons that can predict the future, right?

6) Scientific accuracy

Surely the previous point is not the only element scientifically correct of the entire film. For its realization, Christopher Nolan had the support of physicist Kip Thorne.

Thus, takeoffs, life in space, landings and the behavior of gravity are not just inventions of writers, but everything has a how and a why.

7) The family drama

Interstellar isn't just a film about space and the fate of humanity. Some would argue it isn't even that. Nolan takes science fiction and turns it into a backdrop for the Coopers' heartwarming family story. A story that explores the struggle between desire and duty, love, the search for purpose, and how we deal with loss.

8) The music of Hans Zimmer

Adding a soundtrack to a story is incredibly difficult. And it can turn a good movie into a spectacular one. That's why here at Geekine we can't imagine a better choice as musical director than Hans Zimmer..

Very much in line with the previous point, The composer manages to create tracks that not only speak to us about space, but also about feelings and ourselves.

9) Michael Caine's performance

Let's be honest. Any excuse is good to see something that Michael Caine is involved in. (yes, even when he played a spy car in Cars 2). He is one of Nolan's favorite actors.

And with good reason, His characters always have that aura of mystery and charm that makes it impossible not to suspect. He also manages to make us care for him as if he were our own father or grandfather.

10) Its special effects

A good science fiction movie is not complete without its characteristic special effects.. Since this is a genre that is based on scientific assumptions and therefore has not been proven.

But Interstellar's special effects are on another level. The existing technology in 2014 wasn't sufficient to recreate the futuristic proposal. Therefore, Nolan and his team had to invent new technology and techniques to carry out the project.

11) The setting

Films generally feature both indoor and outdoor settings. In the case of Interstellar, the entire setting is excellently done and quite varied.

Special mention should be made of everything related to the ships and the space stations. Because, in fact, Nolan consulted and visited the facilities of NASA and SpaceX to be able to build places that they are not only aesthetic, but also plausible.

12) A realistic apocalypse

Let's talk one last time about the end of the world depicted in this film. If it seemed realistic or quite possible, it's because it actually is. In the 1930s, During the Great Depression in America, a gigantic dust cloud swept away many of the plantations. that was in the United States. The magnitude of this disaster was so great that it also affected parts of Mexico and Canada.

This fact inspired the situation that the Earth is experiencing in this movie. What's more, some of the interviews shown in the film They are real recordings of the survivors of this event.

And you, dear reader? What did you like about this film? What's your highlight? We'd love to hear from you.
