Then, in 1996, he released what would become his most famous production, Yu-Gi-Oh!, That's why they say the third time's the charm.

It is worth noting that Kazuki Takahashi loved games like mahjong (traditional Chinese game), shōgi (Japanese chess), and card and board games.. Therefore, later on, in In 1999, the company Konami would release a collectible card game which is currently the best-selling according to Guinness World Records.

It has become so famous that the franchise, in addition to the manga, includes anime, video games, spin-offs, and a card game, one that is addictive for many.

Manga and Anime

It all started on October 30, 1996, with the first issue of the manga which appeared in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. After 38 volumes, the manga was canceled, but it had already laid the groundwork for all of its products.

Two anime series have been made, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. The first one was in charge of Toei Animation with a total of 28 episodes broadcast only in Japan between April 4, 1998 and October 10, 1998. The second was produced by Studio Gallop with 224 episodes broadcast between April 18, 2000 and September 29, 2004. In addition, it was translated into twenty languages, allowing it to reach 60 countries.

Movies, spin-offs and video games

Also, they arrived the films, one of which was released in 1999 only in Japan by Toei Animation It's only 30 minutes long. In the film, we see a character named Shōgo Aoyama who is afraid to play Duel Monsters until he gets a super strange card that will help him.

Then, in 2004, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light was released in theaters., Produced by Warner Bros., with a runtime of 101 minutes. In it, we see Yugi assemble the Millennium Puzzle and unleash the Egyptian god of death, Anubis. Therefore, our beloved protagonist will have to join forces with other characters to defeat him.

After, In 2010 they released Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Across Time, In this story, they must defeat Aporia with the help of the protagonists from the two subsequent series. The villain threatens to destroy Pegasus before he can invent Duel Monsters.

The latest movie so far was released for the twentieth anniversary in 2016, known as Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions. With a new story, in which Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba meet after the events of the original manga series.

They also launched a good number of spin-offs between 2004 and 2019. Among them we have Yu-Gi-Oh!, GX, 5D's, ZEXAL, ARC-V, VRAINS and Sevens.

Obviously, video games couldn't be left out. The franchise It has more than 40 video games on different consoles, such as Playstation, Game Boy Color, GameCube, Xbox, PC, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PSP, iOS and Android.

And the collectible card game

This card game was created by Konami based on the game of the manga series created by Kazuki Takahashi known as Duel of Monsters. The company has reproduced most of the cards with the powers granted by their creator, although with certain differences in some cases.

In this game, players must draw cards from their respective decks and play them on the table, while safeguarding their life points (LP). The game can end due to different circumstances, among them: if the LP of one of the players reaches 0, if one or more players have no cards in the deck, or if a player surrenders or is defeated by the effect of a card.

And what are the types of cards? They are of various types, you can find monster, magic and trap cards.

In itself is a game that can be addictive and has been so famous that even tournaments have been held. From events organized by the players themselves or card stores to world tournaments. For the latter, you have to draw a qualifying round.

This way, Kazuki Takahashi created a manga that transcended and became a cult for many. Sadly, Kazuki passed away recently, still young, but he has left us a legacy that will live on in time.
